This Italian, due to his extensive travels and medical schooling at Innsbruck, Austria, and work as university professor of chemistry, mineralogy and metallurgy at the Mining Academy of Schemnitz, from 1769 to 1776 is sometimes listed as an Austrian naturalist, botanist, and physician.
He did have a professorship of natural history in Pavia, Italy, served as a doctor in Trento and Venice, Italy, and was buried in Pavia in 1788. In Pavia he served as chair of chemistry and botany at the university.
Scopoli named/described a European species, Catocala fulminea , in 1763.
