Callionima inuus (Wing span: 67 - 72 mm), flies in
Mexico;
Belize: Orange Walk, Cayo, Toledo;
Guatemala (JM);
Nicaragua: Jinotega, Matagalpa, Zelaya, Rio San Juan;
Costa Rica: Guanacaste, Puntarenas, Lemon, Heredia, Alajuela, San Jose, Carthage;
Panama; through
Venezuela: Amazonas, Aragua, Bolivar, Miranda, Tachira; to
Paraguay: Paraguari; Central; Amambay; Canindeyu
Bolivia: La Paz (450m); Santa Cruz (750m);
Brazil: Sao Paulo: Avanhandava (AB); Parana: Ubirata (KDL) and
Argentina: Chaco, Corrientes (66m), Entre Rios, Formosa, Jujuy, Misiones 158-546m, Salta).
Peru is the specimen type locality: Junin (662m). Cesar Ivan Caballero de la Cruz reports an April flight in Motupe, Lambayeque, Peru

A thin but distinct yellow streak runs from the tip of the pointed apex almost to the base of the large light-coloured patch along the costa.

FLIGHT TIMES:

Callionima inuus adults fly continuously and specimens have been taken in every month in Costa Rica.

Alexander Buldring reports a January flight in Avanhandava, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Luiz Eugenio Costa Figueiredo reports an April flight in Assis, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Kayllane De Lara confirms an April flight in Ubirata, Parana, Brazil.

ECLOSION:

Adults eclose from pupae formed in flimsy cocoons among leaf litter.

Females are usually active from 11:00 pm until 3:00 am, while the males are on the wing from midnight until 2:30 am.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen. Both males and females nectar at flowers and come in to lights, but males are taken much more frequently that way.

EGGS, LARVAE, PUPAE:

Larvae probably feed on Tabernaemontana alba and on other members of the Apocynaceae (Dogbane) family.
