DISTRIBUTION:

Manduca empusa flies in
Venezuela (specimen type locality).

CATE Sphingidae indicates that the type location may be in error as extensive collecting efforts have not provided specimens from teh designated area.

Kitching and Cadiou list it in Hawkmoths of the World 2000, but it is not listed on BOLD Systems as of May 17, 2011, so I suspect it may have been synonymized, or perhaps no specimen samples have been sent to BOLD. I have no images, nor have I seen same.

FLIGHT TIMES:

Manduca empusa adults fly

ECLOSION:

Pupae probably wiggle to surface from subterranean chambers just prior to eclosion.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen. Adults take nectar from flowers.

EGGS, LARVAE, PUPAE:

Larva have been reported on .
